THE DAY TO DAY RUNNING OF THE CLUB IS HEADED UP BY PHILLIP AKINS MA, BN(Hons) A PURPLE BELT IN BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU AND THE FOUNDER OF THE AKINS ACADEMY. PHILLIP ALSO HOLDS A 6TH DAN MASTERS GRADE IN TRADITIONAL JU JUTSU.

Ricardo Vieira Seminar

On Wednesday 5th November the Akins Academy and Check Mat BJJ Wales played host to Wales' first Ricardo Vieira seminar. Ricardo who was 9x BJJ World Champion and joint head of Check Mat BJJ came to Wales to give a 3 hour seminar at the academy based at Tonmawr 2000. The seminar was outstanding with Ricardo showing his world class technique and ability, whilst remaining remarkably humble and sparring with the juniors during the warm ups. A truly world class fighter and world class guy. We would also like to thank the guys from Pedro Bessa Jiu Jitsu who attended the seminar.

Bridgend Classes

The Akins Academy and Check Mat BJJ Wales will be starting classes in Bridgend from Tuesday 11th November. Classes will be held every Tuesday at the Richard Price Centre in Llangeinor, Brigend. Classes will be taken my Gareth Dummer. Class times will be 6pm - 7pm Juniors, 7pm to 8:30pm Adults.
